RIVISTE E COLLANE SCIENTIFICHE
l Consorzio Interuniversitario di Idrologia CINID ha pubblicato la raccolta in tre volumi del patrimonio di dati storici relativi alle portate al colmo e giornaliere massime annue di tutti i bacini già censiti nella Pubblicazione N.17 del Servizio Idrografico Italiano, integrato con serie storiche di stazioni gestite negli ultimi 40 anni dalle reti regionali di monitoraggio. Sono anche presenti alcune schede relative a dighe di interesse nazionale. In tutto sono presenti 632 stazioni e i dati più recenti sono relativi all’anno 2015.
La consultazione del formato e-book Kindle è possibile su qualsiasi piattaforma (anche PC – mac) utilizzando l’apposita applicazione distribuita da Amazon. Non è al momento possibile acquistare la versione cartacea.
Nel prossimo fine settimana sarà possibile scaricare gratuitamente uno dei volumi direttamente dalla pagina di distribuzione di Amazon Kindle. Dear Colleagues, The characterization of river hydraulics is a very important to the definition of problems concerning flood models and the stability of banks. These aspects are closely related to the scale of observation of hydraulic phenomena. The latter has significant value both at the channel and basin scale. This coupling of scales is now possible thanks to modern LiDAR detection techniques, in which topographic surveys are predominant. This Special Issue aims to emphasize new numerical techniques in the field of hydraulic observations. This framework represents a new paradigm towards the development of computational procedures for the spatio-temporal scale representation of complex hydraulic phenomena.

we are pleased to announce a Special Issue (SI) entitled “Recent advances in drought and water scarcity monitoring, modeling, and forecasting (EGU2019, session HS4.1.1/NH1.31)”, to be published in the open access journal Natural Hazard and Earth System Sciences (ISSN 1561-8633, eISSN 1684-9981, IF 2.883).
Dr. Brunella Bonaccorso (University of Messina, Italy), Dr. Carmelo Cammalleri (European Commission – Joint Research Centre, Italy), Prof. Athanasios Loukas (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece) and Dr. Heidi Kreibich (Helmholtz Centre Potsdam) will serve as Guest Editors.
The purpose of this SI is to present recent advances and future challenges in drought and water scarcity monitoring, modeling, and prediction capability to improve risk management, adaptation strategies, and resilience to such adverse events.

Special Issue Information
In recent years, flood frequencies and flooding damage appear to be increasing, with worsening social and economic impacts. The development and application of mathematical models capable to predict floods are therefore essential for their management.
Models that solve the two-dimensional Shallow Water Equations (2D-SWE) on structured or unstructured grids have become nowadays a common tool, but there are still some challenges that have to be faced to obtain fast and accurate solutions for floods covering vast areas. Some of them are the following:
• Reduce the computational time even with high-resolution meshes: efforts have been made to increase the performance of models through MPI techniques or GPU parallelization, but there is still room for improvements on this topic;
• Levee breaching modeling: coupling sub-models to simulate levee breaching due to overtopping or even piping in 2D-SWE models can increase the applicability of these models to real-world hazard mapping preparation;
• Flood propagation in urban areas: there is a lot of work in this direction, for example in the analysis of urban areas through the porosity approach;
• Applications to inverse problems: 2D-SWE start to be applied to solve inverse problems in surface hydrology, and this requires fast and stable models;
• Simulation of structures: structures which interfere with floods (bridges, culverts, etc.) are often modeled as pure 1D internal b.c., despite their 2D (or even 3D) behavior;
• Coupling hydrologic and hydraulic models to produce accurate and fast real-time forecasts of flood propagation;
• Sediment transport models related to flood propagation;
• Damage models to quantitatively assess the damages generated by floods in urban and agricultural areas;
• Flood risk modification generated by climate change.
Researchers working on these topics or on other topics dealing with 2D-SWE models are invited to contribute to this Special Issue.

Manuscripts providing new insights on the hydrological processes in a region, the development of new methods, and/or instrumentation and field-based research on pollution detection and treatment are welcome.
The journal encourages multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary research.
